Broadway veteran Peter Sarsgaard is in final negotiations to join the cast of the upcoming film The Magnificent Seven, according to Variety. Sarsgaard will join a cast that features more Broadway favorites, including Denzel Washington and Ethan Hawke.

The film will also feature Chris Pratt, Vincent D’Onofrio, Haley Bennett, and Luke Grimes. Antoine Fuqua will direct. MGM will oversee production of the film, with Sony distributing.

The Magnificent Seven is a remake of John Sturges' 1960 movie of the same name (starring Yul Brynner and Steve McQueen), which was itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s The Seven Samurai. The story follows seven gunfighters who are assembled by an oppressed Mexican peasant village to help defend their homes. The new film's script was written by Nic Pizzolatto and reworked by John Lee Hancock.

Peter Sarsgaard appeared on Broadway in The Seagull and was most recently seen in Classic Stage Company's production of Hamlet. Denzel Washington last appeared on Broadway as Walter Lee Younger in A Raisin in the Sun, and Ethan Hawke most recently starred in Macbeth on Broadway.
