Penny Fuller and William Biff McGuire to Star in Primary Stages’ Southern Comforts

Penny Fuller and William Biff McGuire will star in Kathleen Clark’s two-character play Southern Comforts at Primary Stages, September 19-October 29. The production, to be directed by two-time Tony Award-winning actress Judith Ivey, will open officially on October 4. Fuller and McGuire replace Dixie Carter and Hal Holbrook, who were originally announced to star.

The play concerns a widow and widower who meet late in life and find their way into each other’s hearts. Clark’s other plays include Soccer Moms and Banner. Ivey’s directorial credits include Soccer Moms, More, and Bad Dates.

The creative team include Thomas Lynch (sets), Joseph G. Aulisi (costumes), Brian Nason (lighting), T. Richard Fitzgerald (sound), and Paul Schwartz (music composition).

Fuller received Tony Award nominations for Applause and The Dinner Party. Her other Broadway credits include Rex, Cabaret, and Barefoot in the Park. McGuire received Tony Award nominations for Morning’s At Seven and The Young Man From Atlanta. He was previously seen at Primary Stages in The Day Emily Married.
