Pan Asian Rep Announces 2011-2012 Season

Pan Asian Rep has announced its lineup of productions and other activities for the 2011-2012 season.

The season will open with Shanghai Lil’s, to run November 10-27 at the West End Theatre. With book and lyrics by Lilah Kan and music by Louis Stewart, the show tells a traditional boy-meets-girl love story, set against the backdrop of World War II. Tisa Chang will direct the production, which will feature choreography by Susan Ancheta.

The company will also produce Mayank Keshaviah’s Rangoon, which centers on a family that emigrates to the rural American south to run a 7-11 store, after they’ve lost their wealth in a political coup in Burma. Casting and creative team, along with dates, will be announced in the near future.

Pan Asian Rep will also produce its NewWorks series in the coming year, which will include Napua Davoy’s one-woman show Stella Rising (March 8-18) and Baudelaire: La Mort (March 23 – April 8), an adaptation from Baudelaire’s poems, segmented from his Les Fleur du Mal, created by Ernest Abuba, Shigeko Suga, and Minouche, and directed by Shigeko Suga.

Alongside these productions, Pan Asian Rep will continue its Play Development Series, which offers free readings of new works. Among the scripts that will be presented as part of the series are Faizul Khan’s Window Shadows, which will be offered in October, and Jeremy Tiang’s A Dream of Red Pavillions and Alvin Eng’s Three Trees, both of which will be performed in December.
