Paley Center to Present Musicals on Television in September logo

The Paley Center for Media (25 West 52nd Street) will present Musicals on Television, screenings of five special programs, on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30 in conjunction with the New York Musical Theatre Festival.

On September 29 at 12:30pm, there will be a screening of West Side Story at 50, which includes a clip of the "balcony scene" from the stage musical as seen on a 1958 episode of The Ed Sullivan Show, a 1958 episode of the series Look Up and Live featuring director/choreographer Jerome Robbins, and a 1961 television interview with the show's lyricist, Stephen Sondheim.

Later that day, at 2pm, there will be a screening of a 1954 television version of Cole Porter's Panama Hattie, starring Ethel Merman, Art Carney, and Ray Middleton; then, at 3pm, the Paley Center will show the 1973 CBS television version of Applause, starring Lauren Bacall, Penny Fuller, and Larry Hagman.

On September 30, there will be two programs shown from the "Hallmark Hall of Fame" series: the 1973 production of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown at 3pm, and at 4pm, a 1964 version of The Fantasticks, starring Ricardo Montalban, Bert Lahr, Susan Watson, Stanley Holloway, and John Davidson.
