Following much drama surrounding the cast of Orphans, the darkly comic play opens on Broadway. logo

Lyle Kessler's dark comedy Orphans opens on Broadway tonight at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre. Making their Broadway debuts, Ben Foster (The Messenger) and Tom Sturridge (Being Julia) take the stage as a pair of orphaned brothers. Living in a decrepit North Philadelphia row house, this pair survives by petty thievery and a diet of tuna fish and daytime television. It isn't until the violent older brother decides to kidnap the notorious Chicago gangster Harold, played by Tony Award nominee Alec Baldwin (Entertaining Mr. Sloane) that, in a turn of events, he changes the brothers' lives forever.

Under the direction of Daniel Sullivan (Glengarry Glen Ross), the limited engagement features scenic design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Jess Goldstein, lighting design by Pat Collins, and sound design by Peter Fitzgerald, with Tom Kitt as the composer.
