Next: Roundabout Will Bring Pacific Overtures Back to Broadway in 2004 logo
It has just been announced that the Roundabout Theatre Company will present a revival of the 1976 Tony Award-winning Stephen Sondheim-John Weidman musical Pacific Overtures on Broadway in the fall of 2004.

The show will be performed in English by Asian-American actors; the production staff will include Amon Miyamoto as director, Paul Gemignani as musical director Rumi Matsui as set designer, and Emi Wada as costume designer.

Pacific Overtures follows the modern history of Japan from the arrival of Commodore Matthew Perry to the present day. It uses traditional Japanese theatrical styles to chronicle Western influence on the "Floating Kingdom." The original Broadway production was directed by Hal Prince and ran for 193 performances. There was a successful Off-Broadway staging of the show in 1984, and a Japanese touring version played a weekend of performances at Lincoln Center last summer.
