Newsies to Offer Free-Ticket Lottery at Final Broadway Performance
The Tony-winning musical will end its run on August 24.
A limited number of free tickets will be given away through a lottery for the final performance of Newsies on Broadway on August 24 at 3pm, the show has announced. Entries will be accepted at the Nederlander Theatre box office beginning at 11:30am, and names will be drawn at random 30 minutes following the start of entries being accepted.
Newsies, which recently announced it would close on August 24, won Tony Awards for Best Original Score Written for the Theatre and Best Choreography. It features music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, with a book by Harvey Fierstein. The musical, inspired by the 1992 film of the same name, tells the story of a group of tenacious newsboys at the turn of the last century who band together to form a union and lead a strike after selling prices are raised. At the time of Newsies' closing, it will have played 1,005 Broadway performances.
A Newsies North American tour will launch in October and will play 25 cities over 43 weeks during the 2014-15 season.
