Nathaniel Stampley and Alicia Hall Moran to Lead National Tour of The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess
The tour of Diane Paulus' Tony Award-winning production will kick off this fall.
Veterans of the Broadway production of The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess Alicia Hall Moran and Nathaniel Stampley have been selected to star in the show's national tour when it kicks off this fall. During the Broadway run, Moran and Stampley understudied the roles they will be playing on tour.
The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess tells the story of the beautiful Bess, who's struggling to break free from her scandalous past, and the only one who can rescue her: the crippled but courageous Porgy. The production features choreography by Ronald K. Brown, set design by Riccardo Hernandez, costume design by ESosa, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind, and sound design by Acme Sound Partners.
Many details of the upcoming tour are still to be announced; however, planned stops will include Charlotte, Cleveland, Dallas, Des Moines, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Palm Beach, Pittsburgh, Seattle, St. Paul, Tempe, and West Palm Beach.
This classic musical features music and lyrics by iconic duo George and Ira Gershwin as well as a libretto by Dubose and Dorothy Heyward, who originally wrote the novel Porgy in 1925. The 2012 Tony-winning adaptation has an adapted book by Suzan-Lori Parks (Topdog/Underdog) and musical adaptation by Diedre L. Murray (Best of Both Worlds).
