My Man Godfrey to Hit Broadway? logo

My Man Godfrey may be coming to Broadway: The stage rights to the 1936 film have been optioned by East of Doheny Productions for a potential Broadway musical.

The film, about a socialite's relationship with her butler, starred William Powell and Carole Lombard. It was directed by Gregory LaCava and featured a screenplay by Morrie Ryskind working with Eric Hatch, who wrote the novel on which the film was based. A 1957 remake starred June Allyson and David Niven.

Among the stage shows presented by East of Doheny thus far are the 1999 Broadway production of Tennessee Williams's Not About Nightingales and last season's Sweet Smell of Success, as well as Flower Drum Song in Los Angeles, the national tour of Art, and the London production of The Full Monty.
