Manhattan Theatre Club has announced that it will present Conor McPherson’s The Shining City in the spring of 2006.

The play had previously been announced for a November 2005 opening at the Schoenfeld Theatre and was to have been presented by Barry and Fran Weissler, Scott Rudin/Paramount Pictures Corporation, Roger Berlind, and Debra Black. That production was canceled, reportedly due to scheduling issues that could not be resolved. The MTC production will open at the Biltmore Theatre on May 3, 2006; previews will begin on April 13.

Originally presented at London’s Royal Court Theater to critical acclaim, the play focuses on a guilt-ridden man who visits a therapist after seeing the ghost of his recently deceased wife. What starts out as an everyday exchange becomes a gripping struggle to survive — a struggle that will change both men for the rest of their lives.

Further details regarding casting and the creative team for The Shining City will be announced at a later date.
