Miriam Margolyes to Join Broadway's Wicked on January 22 logo

Miriam Margolyes will take over the role of Madame Morrible in the Broadway production of Wicked on January 22, replacing current portrayer and original star Carole Shelley.

Margolyes originated the role of Madame Morrible in the London production of Wicked. Her other stage credits include the solo show Dickens' Women, The Killing of Sister George, and The Importance of Being Earnest. She won the BAFTA Award for the film The Age of Innocence and the L.A. Film Critics Award for Little Dorrit. Her many other film credits include Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet, and Being Julia.

Based on Gregory Maguire's novel, Wicked features a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. The cast of Wicked features Stephanie J. Block (Elphaba), Annaleigh Ashford (Glinda), David Burnham (Fiyero), Lenny Wolpe (The Wizard), Cristy Candler (Nessarose), Logan Lipton (Boq), and Steven Skybell (Dr. Dillamond).
