Michael C. Hall's Hedwig Wig Stolen in Plain Sight at the Belasco

This is not going to end well — just ask Yitzhak.

At a recent performance of Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch at the Belasco Theatre, one misguided audience member seems to have stolen one of the show's elaborate wigs right out from under Hedwig's own upturned nose.

According to reports, when stagehands went out to gather the wig off the stage at the end of one of the musical's final scenes, it was nowhere to be found. Since Hedwig's husband, Yitzhak, has an airtight alibi, the most likely suspect is one of the audience members sitting near the stage the evening of the incident.

But perhaps the absconder should have consulted Yitzhak before making such a rash decision. After all, no one knows better than he that no matter how silky the tresses, it's probably not worth Hedwig's ire.

Confirming that our concerns for the wig thief's well-being are legitimate, producer David Binder told the New York Post, "I’m afraid for the poor person who did this, because Hedwig will find you — hunt you down, and do unspeakable things to you."

He went on to warn the offender of showing his or her new coif at this weekend's Halloween parties. "You’d better not wear it in the Village on Friday. She’ll snatch it right off your head."

Our suggestion for the thief is that you stuff that wig in a box, put on some makeup, and start hanging out at the Times Square Hard Rock Cafe. Hedwig wouldn't be caught dead there — at least until they start playing her music.
