Michael C. Hall will return to the spiked heels of Hedwig in Broadway's Hedwig and the Angry Inch, stepping in from February 17-21 for John Cameron Mitchell, who injured his knee during a recent performance. Mitchell will continue in the show through February 14 before his one-week leave, and then return to play out the rest of his extended engagement at the Belasco Theatre until April 26.

"As soon as we knew John was hurt," said producer David Binder said in a statement, "I called Michael C. Hall to see if he was available to step back into the golden heels of our leading lady. Michael did not hesitate to put the wig back on his head and return to the Belasco."

Mitchell injured himself during a performance on Saturday, February 7. According to various social media reports, he returned to the stage on Tuesday, February 10, performing an amended version of Michael Mayer's staging while wearing a knee brace.

His appearance in Mayer's Tony Award-winning revival marks his first New York stage appearance since 1998, when he originated the role of Hedwig at the Jane Street Theatre. He later starred in and directed the 2001 film version of Hedwig and the Angry Inch and received a Golden Globe nomination. He also wrote the book of the musical, with Stephen Trask penning the songs.

Lena Hall continues her Tony-winning performance as Yitzhak, the beleaguered husband of internationally ignored transgender rock star Hedwig (Mitchell). The Hedwig band is made up of Justin Craig (guitar, keyboards, vocals), Matt Duncan (bass, vocals), Tim Mislock (guitar, vocals), and Peter Yanowitz (drums, vocals).
