Matilda The Musical to Play Broadway’s Shubert Theatre

The Royal Shakespeare Company’s production of Matilda The Musical will play Broadway’s Shubert Theatre, beginning previews March 4, 2013 with an opening on April 11. As previously reported, the production will be directed by Matthew Warchus.

Featuring a book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, the show is based upon a story by Roald Dahl. It centers on a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence and psychokinetic powers.

The production premiered at the RSC’s Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon under Warchus’ direction, and is currently playing its West End engagement at the Cambridge Theatre. Matilda is the recipient of a record-breaking seven Olivier Awards, including Best Musical and a joint Best Actress Award for the four girls who shared the title role.

The production has sets and costumes by Rob Howell, with choreography by Peter Darling, orchestrations, additional music and musical supervision by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, and sound by Simon Baker.
