The Broadway production of Matilda the Musical will end its run at the Shubert Theatre on January 1, 2017, after 37 previews and 1,555 performances. Directed by Matthew Warchus, the musical began performances March 4, 2013, and opened April 11 of that year.

Featuring a Tony-winning book by Dennis Kelly and music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, the show is inspired by Roald Dahl's novel of the same name and tells the story of a little girl with astonishing wit, intelligence, and psychokinetic powers. The production has sets and costumes by Rob Howell, with choreography by Peter Darling, orchestrations, additional music and musical supervision by Christopher Nightingale, lighting by Hugh Vanstone, and sound by Simon Baker.

The current company of Matilda is led by Mattea Conforti, Rileigh McDonald, MiMi Ryder, and Alexandra Vlachos, who share the title role. The principal cast also features Natalie Venetia Belcon (Mrs. Phelps), Rick Holmes (Mr. Wormwood), Alison Case (Miss Honey), Amy Spanger (Mrs. Wormwood), and Christopher Sieber (Miss Trunchbull).

Matilda The Musical has received four Tony Awards and a Tony Honor for Excellence in the Theater for each of the four girls sharing the title role. The production recouped its $16 million investment in December 2014.
