Matilda The Musical to Offer Autism-Friendly Performance
The hit Broadway musical joins the Theatre Development Fund's Autism Theatre Initiative.
Broadway's Matilda The Musical will collaborate with the Theatre Development Fund to produce an autism-friendly version of the hit musical, joining TDF's Autism Theatre Initiative. The program aims to make theater accessible to children and adults on the autism spectrum as well as to their families.
A special 1:30pm autism-friendly matinee will be held on February 1 at the Shubert Theatre. Adjustments have been made to the original production, including the reduction of any jarring sounds or strobe lights focused into the audience. Quiet areas and an activity area will be located in the theater lobby, staffed with autism specialists, for those who need to leave their seats during the performance.
Based on Roald Dahl's popular children's book, Matilda opened in April 2013 and earned five Tony Awards. The cast currently features Christopher Sieber as Miss Trunchbull, Alison Luff as Miss Honey, Leslie Margherita as Mrs. Wormwood, and Matt Harrington as Mr. Wormwood, with Tori Feinstein, Eliza Holland Madore, Brooklyn Shuck, and Fina Strazza sharing the title role.
