Mary Zimmerman’s Armida, Starring Renee Fleming, Announces Full Cast and Creative Team

Full casting and creative teams has been announced for Mary Zimmerman’s production of Rossini’s Armida at the Metropolitan Opera, which will debut on April 12 and continue through May 12. As previously announced, Renée Fleming will star in the production, which will be conducted by Riccardo Frizza.

The opera is about a vengeful sorceress who reigns over an enchanted island prison. The company will also feature Lawrence Brownlee (Rinaldo), José Manuel Zapata (Gernando), John Osborn (Goffredo), Barry Banks (Carlo), Kobie van Rensburg (Ubaldo), Yegishe Manucharyan (Eustazio), Peter Volpe (Idraote), and Keith Miller (Astarotte).

The production will feature choreography by Graciela Daniele, who is making her Metropolitan Opera debut. The creative team will include Richard Hudson (scenic and costume design), Brian MacDevitt (lighting design), and Dnaiel Pelzig (assistant choreographer).

Also, as previously announced, the final dress rehearsal of the production on April 9 will be open to the public. Additionally, the matinee on May 1 will be seen around the world through the companys The Met: Live in HD series.
