Mark Adamo, John Corigliano, Gregory Maguire, Eddie Palmieri, et al. Set for Symphony Space in 2010-2011

Symphony Space has announced its programming for the 2010-2011 season.

Among the highlights of the coming year is Fairy Tales: Classic and Reimagined with Gregory Maguire (October 27), which will feature selections form the new collection My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me. This event, part of the venue’s Selected Shorts series, which will also feature events focusing on Russian stories, magical realism and the writer Edna O’Brien.

For families, Symphony Space will offer a performance by Story Pirates (October 2), which brings adaptations of stories written by children to the stage, an appearance by Circurious (October 23) and an engagement featuring Oklahoma’s Sugar Free All-Stars (April 30).

There will be a new series of artists salons, where audiences are able to investigate the creative process of prominent artists, to include composer Aaron Jay Kernis (November 18) and John Corigliano and Mark Adamo on Writing for the Voice (April 2). Other musical highlights will be an evening dedicated to Ravi Shankar and Philip Glass’ music to be performed by the Enso Quartet and David Leisner on February 25.

Latino culture will be celebrated in a variety of ways with the new SONIDOS initiative. Presentations will include a performance by the Arturo O’Farrill Quartet (October 7), the Cassatt Quartet offering premieres by composers Samuel Zyman and Francisco Cortez (October 15), an appearance by Neuvo Tango master Pablo Ziegler (April 23), and a concert featuring Eddie Palmieri (April 29). Symphony Space will also dedicate its annual 12-hour Wall to Wall Marathon to this initiative. Offered on May 14, Wall to Wall SONDIOS will be a 12-hour marathon of Latino music.


The venue’s programming will also include a host of film events, from summer blockbusters for the whole family to a retrospective of films by Alfred Hitchcock, offered in new high-definition prints.
