Marissa Perry to Become Hairspray‘s New Tracy April 15

Marissa Perry will take over the lead role of Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway musical Hairspray on Tuesday, April 15 from departing star Shannon Durig. She has been Durig’s understudy.

In recent weeks, Hairspray has seen Aaron Tveit temporarily return to role of Link Larkin, replacing injured star Ashley Parker Angel, and Karen Mason take over the role of Velma Von Tussle. On April 22, Jenifer Lewis will succeed Darlene Love in the role of Motormouth Maybelle. George Wendt will continue in the pivotal role of Edna Turnblad.

Based on the hit film by John Waters, Hairspray has music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Shaiman and Scott Whitman, and a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas Meehan. The show is directed by Jack O’Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.
