Call it a battle of the Phantoms.

Three-time Tony Award nominee Marc Kudisch (9 to 5: The Musical) will direct the world premiere of Neil Berg’s The Phantoms of the Opera, a concert event that explores the major musical theater adaptations of Gaston Leroux’s classic novel, on April 4 and 5 at MSC OPAS at Texas A&M University.

The concert will combine excerpts from Phantom of the Opera, the 1976 musical that features English lyrics by Ken Hill and the music of Verdi, Offenbach, Mozart, and others; Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit’s 1991 musical Phantom; and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera. Casting is expected to be announced in early 2013.

Kudisch received Tony nominations for his performances in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and 9 to 5: The Musical. He has also been seen on stage in The Blue Flower, Assassins, The Apple Tree, and many others. Berg is the composer-lyricist of The Prince and the Pauper and Grumpy Old Men, as well as the creator of the popular touring concert 100 Years of Broadway.
