Luker, Dvorsky, and Others Sing Out for New Voices in a New Space
On January 20, 2003, at 8pm, the New Composers Collective will present the first in a series of concerts entitled New Voices in a New Space. The program will feature Rebecca Luker, George Dvorsky, Victoria Clark, Kate Baldwin, and Dan Reichard performing songs by Sam Davis, Joel Fram, Joshua Rosenblum, and Georgia Stitt.
Luker received Tony, Outer Critics Circle, and Drama Desk nominations for her role of Marian Paroo in the 2000 Broadway revival of The Music Man and appeared as Clara in this past summer’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Passion at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Dvorsky, in addition to performing with orchestras worldwide, has appeared on Broadway in The Scarlet Pimpernel and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and in the original Off-Broadway production of Passion.
Clark’s Broadway credits include Cabaret, Titanic, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Guys and Dolls; she also appeared as the Beggar Woman in Sweeney Todd with George Hearn, Patti LuPone, and the San Francisco Symphony. Baldwin is currently starring as Nellie Forbush in South Pacific at the Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., played Ellen in the recent Paper Mill production of Miss
Saigon, and was in Thoroughly Modern Millie on Broadway. Reichard made his New York debut in Forbidden Broadway and recently played Keith Haring in a workshop of the new musical Radiant Baby at the Public Theater.
The New Composers Collective is dedicated to presenting the songs of up-and-coming composers from diverse backgrounds and disciplines; thus, the New Voices in a New Space concert will offer music in a wide range of styles, from traditional American art songs to contemporary pop to selections from musical theater projects currently in development.
The Concert will be held in the Leonard Nimoy Thalia venue at Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street. Tickets are $18 for non-members of the New Composers Collective ($16 for members) and are available at the box office or by phoning 212-864-5400.
