Michael Attenborough, the new artistic director of London’s Almeida Theatre, has just announced the schedule for the company’s 2003 season.

The slate of shows includes a production of Pam Gems’s new version of Henrik Ibsen’s The Lady of the Sea, directed by Trevor Nunn; the world premiere of novelist and actor Antony Sher’s first play, I.D., to be directed by Nancy Meckler; the world premiere of 24-year-old, award-
winning Joanna Laurens’s Five Gold Rings, directed by Attenborough; and the British premiere of Sam Shepard’s The Late Henry Moss.

The Almeida’s 2003 opera season will include five world premieres: Simon Holt’s Who Put Bella in the Wych-Elm? on a double bill with Salvatore Sciarrino’s Infinito Nero; a new music theater piece by Elena Langer and poet Glyn Maxwell; and productions of the three 2002 finalists for the Genesis Prizes for Opera.
