Local One Ratifies Contract

Local One struck Broadway on November 10, and did not return to work until November 29. The strike centered on a number of issues, most notably, the number of employees — including carpenters and electricians — that need to be hired during a show’s load-in process. The League gained some flexibility in how many stagehands need to be hired, with minimums now set for 12 workers per day for a play and 17 workers per day for a musical, while Local One members gained yearly pay increases. There were also rule changes made in other areas.

In a statement released on November 29, the League’s executive director Charlotte St. Martin said, “The contract is a good compromise that serves our industry.”
