Lisa Kron to Reprise Well at Boston's Huntington Theatre Company
Leigh Silverman, who helmed the Broadway run, will direct the Huntington's production, which will co-star Mary Pat Gleason in the role of Kron's mother and will also feature Colman Domingo, Donnetta Lavinia Grays, John McAdams, and Barbara Pitts. (Grays and Domingo were understudies in the Broadway production.)
"This play is not about my mother and me," says Kron in Well. "We are in my parents' house and that is my mother there, sleeping in that La-Z-Boy recliner -- which is where she spends most of her time because she doesn't feel well enough to get up and do other things -- but, this is not about her, or about me and her." The show played at The Public Theater in 2004 and transferred to Broadway in 2006, earning critical acclaim and Tony nominations for Kron and co-star Jayne Houdyshell.
Kron's other credits as a writer/performer include 2.5 Minute Ride and 101 Humiliating Stories. Additionally, she has appeared in productions of such plays as The Normal Heart, The Vagina Monologues, and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told. She is a founding member of the OBIE and Bessie Award-winning theatre company The Five Lesbian Brothers, whose plays include Oedipus at Palm Springs, Brave Smiles, and The Secretaries.
