Tony Award-winning actress Linda Lavin will return to the Vineyard Theatre to star in the world premiere of Nicky Silver’s Too Much Sun. Lavin last appeared at the Vineyard in Silver’s 2012 comedy The Lyons, which later transferred to Broadway and earned her a Tony nomination. Too Much Sun will begin performances May 1, 2014 in advance of a May 20 opening. The Lyons director Mark Brokaw will also join the Vineyard reunion and helm the upcoming production.

Too Much Sun follows Audrey Langham (Lavin), a celebrated actress who unravels as she prepares for a new production of Medea. She decides to escape by indulging in a summer by the sea with her married daughter who does not extend the warmest of welcomes. Langham instead sets off a chain of harrowing and hilarious events that lead to an unforgettable summer.

Lavin has been nominated for six Tony Awards, earning one in 1987 for her performance in Broadway Bound. Her Tony-nominated performances also include Collected Stories, The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife, The Diary of Anne Frank, and Last of the Red Hot Lovers. She can currently be seen on the new NBC sitcom Sean Saves the World, opposite Sean Hayes and Megan Hilty.

Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
