Lincoln Center to Present LCT3 Production of Ayad Akhtar's Disgraced

Lincoln Center Theater will present the New York premiere of Ayad Akhtar's Disgraced as part of its LCT3 initiative in the brand new Claire Tow Theater, October 15-November 18, with an opening on October 22. Kimberly Senior will direct.

The play is the story of Amir Kapoor, a successful Pakistani-American lawyer who is rapidly moving up the corporate ladder while distancing himself from his cultural roots. When Amir and his wife Emily, a white artist influenced by Islamic paintings, host a dinner party, what starts out as a friendly conversation escalates into something far more damaging.

The cast and design team will be announced at a later date.

Akhtar is a writer and actor, who wrote the novel American Dervish and is the co-author of numerous screenplays. He co-wrote and played the lead role in the film The War Within, which was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay . His other plays include The Invisible Hand, which recently premiered at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
