Liev Schreiber Tapped for Broadway Production of Eric Bogosian’s Talk Radio

Liev Schreiber will head the cast of the first Broadway production of Eric Bogosian’s Talk Radio, scheduled to open at the Longacre Theatre in February for a limited engagement. Robert Falls, most recently represented on Broadway by Shining City, will direct. No other casting has been announced.

The show is being produced by Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Jam Theatricals, the team behind the 2005 Tony Award-winning production of Glengarry Glen Ross, which also earned Schreiber a Tony for his performance as Richard Roma. The design team for Talk Radio includes Mark Wendland (set), Laura Bauer (costumes) and Christopher Akerlind (lighting). Richards confirmed that the show will have a limited engagement but said that the exact length of the run is currently being worked out

First seen at The Public Theater in 1987, with Bogosian starring, the play concerns a controversial radio host who becomes overwhelmed by the hatred that surrounds his program just before it goes national. Oliver Stone directed the 1988 film version of Talk Radio, in which Bogosian recreated his original role. Bogosian’s other plays include subUrbia, which is being revived this season by Second Stage Theatre, and Pounding Nails on the Floor With My Forehead.

Schreiber recently played the title role in The Public Theater’s recent production of Macbeth in Central Park. His other credits at the Public include the title roles in Hamlet and Henry V. In addition to Glengarry Glen Ross, he has appeared on Broadway in Betrayal and In the Summer House. Among the many films in which he has starred are Scream and its sequel; A Walk on the Moon; Michael Almereyda’s 2000 film of Hamlet, in which he played Laertes; Kate & Leopold; the 2004 remake of The Manchurian Candidate; and the 2006 remake of The Omen.
