Lena Horne Estate Sale Brings In $316,000 logo
A sale of possessions from the estate of legendary stage and screen star Lena Horne brought a sales total of $316,000 on Wednesday , February 23, at the Doyle New York auction house, according to The Associated Press. Horne died last year at age 92.

The auction of more than 200 items brought in twice as much money as had been expected. Among the items sold was a small Louis Vuitton trunk with stickers inscribed "Lena Horne Hayton" for $20,000, and a reversible mink coat by Horne's favorite designer, Giorgio di Sant' Angelo, for $8,125.

Horne came to Broadway in 1957 in the musical Jamaica, opposite Ricardo Montalban, earning a Tony Award nomination for Best Actress. Her one-woman show, Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music, debuted in May, 1981 and ran for 13 months, and earned her a Special Tony Award. The show was later taped for PBS and earned an Emmy Award nomination.
