Laurie Anderson, Meredith Monk, Robert Wilson, et al. Set for Guggenheim Performances
Meredith Monk will present Ascension Variations on March 5, utilizing the museum's unique spiraling geometry for her piece, which will include a vocal ensemble, string quartet, and a chorus of over 80 singers and dozens of dancers. Laurie Anderson will present a solo performance, Transitory Life: Some Stories on March 12 and 13, created specifically in response to the themes in the exhibition and utilizing a collection of adventure stories, poems, and music. Robert Wilson will present the world premiere of KOOL - Dancing in My Mind, on April 17 and 18, working with Carla Blank to create a performance-portrait inspired by legendary Japanese performer and choreographer Suzushi Hanayagi.
Other highlights will include Merce Cunningham in conversation with Laura Kuhn (March 31), discussing the use of chance in the work of John Cage and Cunningham, and Yoko Ono (April 2), who will discuss her ideas on Asian art and thoughts with curator Alexandra Munroe.
Participating artists will also include La Monte Young, Marian Zazeela, The Just Alap Raga Ensemble, Jung Hee Choi, and Marina Abramovic.For more information, visit www.guggenheim.org.
