Olivier Award winner Laura Michelle Kelly and Tony nominee Christian Borle will play Mary and Bert, respectively, in the Broadway production of Mary Poppins, at the New Amsterdam Theatre, beginning October 12. They replace Scarlett Strallen and Adam Fiorentino, who will play their final performance on October 11.

The show, based on stories by P.L. Travers and the Oscar-winning 1964 Walt Disney film of the same title, is directed by Richard Eyre, with co-direction and choreography by Matthew Bourne and additional choreography by Stephen Mear. Mary Poppins has a book by Julian Fellows, and uses the original film score by Robert and Richard Sherman, augmented by new songs written by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe.

Kelly won her Olivier for originating the part of Mary Poppins in the 2004 West End premiere of the show, and made her Broadway debut as one of Tevye’s daughters in the 2004 revival of Fiddler on the Roof. Borle earned Tony, Drama Desk and Drama League nominations for his performance as Emmett Forrest in the Broadway premiere of Legally Blonde, and another Drama Desk nomination for his performance as Prince Herbert in Monty Python’s Spamalot.

Also joining the cast are Jeff Binder as Mr. Banks, Jenny Galloway as Mrs. Brill, and Michael McCarty as Admiral Boom, returning to the role he created on Broadway. Continuing in their roles are Rebecca Luker as Mrs. Banks, Ann Arvia as Bird Woman, Mark Price as Robertson Ay, and Ruth Gottschall as Miss Andrew. Juliette Allen Angelo, Alexandria Berro, and Cassady Leonard alternate as Jane Banks while Jeremiah Kissane, Matthew Schechter, and Andrew Shipman alternate as Michael Banks.
