LaChanze, Angelica Ross, and More to Perform in 50in50: Letters to Our Daughters

The third annual Women’s History Month event will feature 50 monologues read by various performers.

The Billie Holiday Theatre has announced the cast and selected writers for the third annual monologue showcase 50in50: Letters to Our Daughters to honor Women's History Month on Saturday, March 9, at 3pm and 7pm at the Kumble Theater at LIU Brooklyn.

In response to a curatorial statement by 2018 MacArthur "Genius" fellow Dominique Morisseau, 50 original monologues, selected from hundreds of submissions from women of the African disapora across the globe, will be read by Marsha Stephanie Blake (Orange Is the New Black), Ebony JoAnn (Ma Rainey's Black Blottom), Jasmine Cephas Jones (Hamilton), LaChanze (The Color Purple), Terria Joseph (Empire), Celestine Rae (Boardwalk Empire), Angelica Ross (Pose), Michele Shay (A Raisin in the Sun), Phyllis Yvonne Stickney (How Stella Got Her Groove Back), and Pauletta Pearson Washington (She's Gotta Have It). Live music will be performed by Maritri Garrett.

There will also be a conversation included specifically exploring the #MeToo and #MuteRKelly movements, respectively.

The Billie will also bring the monologue showcase to the new WACO Theater Center in Los Angeles for its West Coast premiere. Pauletta Washington and Phyllis Yvonne Stickney will also be featured in the Los Angeles show.
