If further proof were needed of the high esteem in which the Manhattan Theatre Club’s Proof is held by the theater community, it has come in the form of three Lucille Lortel Awards announced today: for David Auburn‘s play, for the performance of Mary-Louise Parker in the leading role, and for director Daniel Sullivan. Another big Lortel winner is Theatre de Complicite’s Mnemonic, honored in the Unique Theatrical Experience 2001 category as well as for lighting design (Paul Anderson) and sound design (Christopher Shutt). Bat Boy The Musical was named Outstanding Musical of 2001, and the Second Stage production of Tiny Alice was cited as Best Revival.
The winners of the awards, which honor excellence Off-Broadway, will be feted at the Lucille Lortel Theatre at 7pm on Monday, May 7, in a benefit for the Actors’ Fund of America to be co-hosted by Alan Cumming and Brooke Shields.
