Kelli O’Hara, Steven Pasquale, and Playwrights Horizons Celebrate Opening of Off-Broadway’s Far From Heaven

Laura Benanti, Celia Keenan-Bolger, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Celia Weston were among the guests ready to cheer on the new musical.

Off-Broadway’s Playwrights Horizons celebrated the opening of the new Michael Korie-Scott Frankel-Richard Greenberg musical Far From Heaven on Sunday, June 2 with a post-performance get-together at the Irish pub Tir na nÓg. The production, directed by Michael Greif, is inspired by Todd Haynes’ acclaimed film of the same title and runs through July 7 on the theater’s main stage.

Four-time Tony Award nominee Kelli O’Hara leads the company as Cathy Whitaker, a suburban wife and mother in 1957 whose life begins to unravel as she discovers that her husband (Steven Pasquale) has been hiding a big secret, and that she herself may have feelings for her African-American gardener (Isaiah Johnson). The cast also includes Nancy Anderson, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, Alma Cuervo, J.B. Adams, Mary Stout, Justin Scott Brown, James Moye, Sarah Jane Shanks, Tess Soltau, Marinda Anderson, Korey Jackson, Victor Wallace, Elainey Bass, Jake Lucas, and Julianna Rigoglioso.

Guests at the opening night included Tony Award winners Laura Benanti and Lin-Manuel Miranda, Tony nominees Hunter Foster and Celia Keenan-Bolger, writer/performer Sarah Saltzberg, and Celia Weston, who appeared in the film version of Far From Heaven.
