Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall will direct and choreograph a musical version of the popular 1982 film Diner, scheduled to open on Broadway in the fall of 2012. Prior to its run in New York, the production will play a limited engagement out-of-town in a city and at a venue to be announced in the near future.

Academy Award winner Barry Levinson will write the book for the show, which will have music and lyrics by Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Sheryl Crow. Diner, set in 1959 Baltimore at Christmastime, centers on six high school buddies, awkwardly stumbling into adulthood in their twenties, who reunite as the second member of the group is about to tie the knot. Casting and creative team will be announced shortly.

Marshall has won Tony Awards for her choreography for Anything Goes, currently playing at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre, as well as Pajama Game and Wonderful Town. In addition, she received Tony Award nominations for her direction of these productions, along with Tony nomination for her choreography for Kiss Me, Kate. As previously announced, she will be directing Nice Work If You Can Get It, with Matthew Broderick and Kelli O'Hara, on Broadway in the spring of 2012
