Jon Marans’ A Strange and Separate People to Begin Off-Broadway Run in July

A Strange and Separate People, a new play by Jon Marans, will begin its Off Broadway run at Theatre Row’s Studio Theatre on July 14, with an official opening on July 19. Jeff Calhoun will direct the production.
Casting and creative team will be announced shortly.

The play concerns an Upper West Side young Orthodox couple, Jay and Phyllis, who have managed to find a precarious equilibrium in their complicated personal and religious lives that is severely tested when Stuart, a gay doctor who is handsome, cocky, and newly Orthodox, invades their lives.


Marans’ previous plays include The Temperamentals and Old Wicked Songs.

Calhoun’s many credits include Big River, Emma and Grease. He is set to direct the upcoming productions of Newsies and Bonnie & Clyde.
