Film director John Waters will appear at the Drama Book Shop (250 West 40th Street) at 6:30pm on Monday, October 23 to read his introduction to the reissue of Tennessee Williams’ Memoirs and sign copies of the book.

First published in 1975, Memoirs focuses on the late playwright’s life and work, including the death of his longtime companion, Frank Merlo; Williams’ confinement to a psychiatric ward; and his friendships with Gore Vidal, Truman Capote, Marlon Brando, Elizabeth Taylor, Tallulah Bankhead, and a host of other luminaries. Waters’ introduction to the book is titled “Mr. Williams Saved My Life.”

Waters is the director of such films as Hairspray (which inspired one of Broadway’s most popular musicals), Cry-Baby (the stage musical version of which will premiere in Seattle next year), Polyester, Serial Mom, and Pink Flamingos.

The October 23 event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 212-944-0595.
