The Broadway casts of Wicked and Once have joined the star-studded lineup of performers.
Emmy winner and Broadway veteran Jane Lynch (Annie), best known for her regular role on the Fox series Glee, has been announced as the host for the upcoming fundraising event Uprising of Love: A Benefit Concert for Global Equality. The concert is scheduled to take place on Monday, September 15, at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre.
The lineup of performers now includes the Broadway casts of Wicked and Once, as well as the cast of I Am Harvey Milk, which opens at Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall on October 6. As previously announced, the cast will also feature two-time Tony Award winner Patti LuPone (Gypsy), 16-time Grammy Award winner Sting (The Last Ship), Tony winner Billy Porter (Kinky Boots), country star Chely Wright, Olympic diving gold medalist Greg Louganis, Bollywood star Celina Jaitly, and Matt Gould, Griffin Matthews, and the cast of their new musical Witness Uganda. Additional performers and presenters will be announced at a later date.
From executive producers Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) and Bruce Cohen, the event partners with the United Nations to support the efforts of United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the U.N.'s Free & Equal campaign, calling for equal rights globally for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals. The net proceeds from the concert will go to Fueling the Frontlines, a three-year, $20 million campaign for global LGBTI rights led by the Astraea Lesbian Foundation for Justice.
