James Barbour will play Jack Favel in the forthcoming Broadway musical Rebecca, joining the previously announced Sierra Boggess, who will play the lead role of “I.” Co-directed by Michael Blakemore and Francesco Zambello, the show will begin previews at the Broadhurst Theatre on March 27, in anticipation of an April 22 opening.

Barbour received Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Award nominations for his portrayal of Sydney Carton in A Tale of Two Cities on Broadway. His other Broadway appearances include Assassins, Beauty and the Beast, Carousel, Urinetown, and Jane Eyre.

Based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier novel, the musical features an original book by Michael Kunze, music by Sylvester Levay, English book adaptation by Christopher Hampton, and English lyrics by Hampton and Kunze. The show tells the story of Maxim de Winter, his new wife (“I”), and Mrs. Danvers, the controlling and manipulative housekeeper of Maxim’s West Country estate of Manderley — where the memory of his first wife, the glamorous and mysterious Rebecca, still casts a shadow.

In related news, Barbour has announced a series of holiday concerts to be offered both in New York, at Sardi’s, running December 8-11, and in California, at The Spanish Hills Country Club in Camarillo on Sunday, December 4 and at The Coterie in Los Angeles on December 16 & 17. In addition, his new CD, Bring Me Giants has recently been released by Global Vision Records.
