Former Hairspray star Jackie Hoffman will play Gorgeous in the Old Globe Theatre’s production of the late Wendy Wasserstein’s comedy The Sisters Rosensweig, July 15-August 20. The production, which will officially open on July 20, will be directed by David Warren.

The show concerns three brilliant and eccentric sisters who gather in London to celebrate the birthday of the eldest, Sara (played by Janet Zarish), who finds romance when a Brooklyn-based furrier named Mervyn Kent (played by Mark Blum) shows up. The cast also includes Marty Lodge (Nicholas), Dierdre Lovejoy (Pfeni), Stefanie Nava (Tess), Tom Nelis (Geoffrey), and Mark J. Sullivan (Tom).

The creative team includes Alexander Dodge (sets), David Woolard (costumes), Jeff Croiter (lighting), and Paul Peterson (sound). Warren is currently represented Off-Broadway by Burleigh Grime$ and Drumstruck. His many New York stage credits include The Dazzle, Hurrah at Last, and Holiday.

Hoffman played three roles — Mrs. Pingleton, the gym teacher, and the prison matron — in the original Broadway production of Hairspray. Her Off-Broadway credits include The Book of Liz and The Most Fabulous Story Ever Told. She is also the best selling performer at Joe’s Pub, where her shows have included Jackie Hoffman: The Kvetching Continues.
