Deirdre O’Connell and Rick Stear will star in the Cherry Lane Theatre’s production of Lee Thuna’s Fugue, March 13-April 22. The production, to be directed by Judith Ivey, will open officially on March 21.

The play, which won the American Theatre Critics Award for Best Play in a Regional Theatre, concerns Mary (O’Connell), a woman found wandering in Chicago in a “fugue” state of amnesia. Her case is assigned to Danny (Stear), a young psychiatrist who is running away from his own demons — specifically, a mistake he made with a previous patient.

The show’s creative team includes Neil Patel (sets), Gail Cooper Hecht (costumes), Pat Dignan (lighting), and T. Richard Fitzgerald and Carl Casella (lighting). Ivey won Tony Awards for her performances in Steaming and Hurlyburly. Her directorial credits include Bad Dates, Steel Magnolias, Soccer Moms, and Southern Comforts.

The cast also includes Charlotte Booker, Ari Butler, Lily Corvo, Liam Craig, Danielle Skraastad, and Catherine Wolf. O’Connell is the winner of an OBIE Award for Sustained Excellence; her many stage credits include Manic Flight Reaction, Stone Cold Dead Serious, and Cavedweller. Stear played Sebastian in the Lincoln Center Theater production of Twelfth Night; his recent regional credits include The Pillowman and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
