Producer James L. Nederlander has confirmed that Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper (American Hustle), Patricia Clarkson (Pieces of April), and Alessandro Nivola (The Winslow Boy) will star on Broadway this fall in Bernard Pomerance's Tony Award-winning The Elephant Man. The play will be directed by Scott Ellis at a Shubert theater to be announced.

Clarkson will play Mrs. Kendal, a woman in Victorian England who befriends the disfigured John Merrick (Cooper), who came to notoriety because of his affliction, astonishing the world with his humanity. Nivola will play Dr. Fredrik Treves.

The Elephant Man first premiered on Broadway in 1979, with Philip Anglim starring in the title role. Billy Crudup, currently seen on Broadway in Waiting for Godot and No Man's Land, played the role in a 2002 revival.

Bradley Cooper made his Broadway debut opposite Julia Roberts and Paul Rudd in a sold-out 2006 mounting of Richard Greenberg's Three Days of Rain. Clarkson, coincidentally, starred in the 1997 off-Broadway premiere of that play.

Exact dates for the fall revival of The Elephant Man have yet to be announced.
