Hugh Jackman, Bernadette Peters, Actors' Equity to Receive Special Tony Honors
Jackman will receive a Special Tony Award "for his contributions to the Broadway community, both as a performer and humanitarian; his tireless dedication to charitable works of many types; and his personal generosity of spirit."
Peters has been named as the recipient of the Isabelle Stevenson Award, which "recognizes an individual from the theatre community who has made a substantial contribution of volunteered time and effort on behalf of one or more humanitarian, social service or charitable organizations, regardless of whether such organizations relate to the theatre." Specifically she is being honored for her work with the charity Broadway Barks!, which she founded with Mary Tyler Moore, as well as work with such other charities as Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Standing Tall, and Actors Fund of America.
A Special Tony Award will also be given to Actors' Equity Association, who starting in the month of June will be celebrating it's 100th anniversary.
