The new musical Hot Feet, directed and choreographed by Maurice Hines, is now scheduled to begin Broadway preview performances at the Hilton Theatre on April 20 — two days later than first announced. The official opening of the show, which is currently playing Washington, D.C.’s National Theater through April 9, is still set for April 30.

According to a spokesperson, the production needs more time to move into the Hilton than was originally anticipated. Hot Feet opened to mixed reviews in D.C., and significant work is being done on the book and the overall structure of the show. The musical has a score by Maurice White, founder of the legendary pop group Earth, Wind and Fire, and includes some of that group’s biggest hits. It has a book by Heru Ptah, who has created an African-American variation on the classic tale “The Red Shoes,” about a young dancer who makes a Faustian bargain in her quest for stardom.

The large cast of Hot Feet is headed by Vivian Nixon, Keith David, Ann Duquesnay, Michael Balderrama, Allen Hidalgo, Wynonna Smith, and Sarah Livingston. The show’s creative team includes James Noone (sets), Paul Tazewell (costumes), Clifton Taylor (lighting), and Acme Sound Partners (sound design).
