Horizon Thaetre Rep Announces Casting for Benito Cereno

Horizon Theatre Rep has announced casting for Robert Lowell’s Benito Cereno, to run September 22-October 16 at The Flea Theatre. Woodie King Jr. will direct the production, which will have choreography by Bruce Heath.

Based on Herman Melville’s novella of the same name, the play, set in 1770, depicts the mysterious events that occur when an American merchant vessel comes upon a battered Spanish ship, that has a nearly all-black crew and a white captain, Benito Cereno.

The company will feature Reynaldo Piniella, Frank Mayers, Mutiyat Ade-Salu, Jaymes Jorsling, Arthur Bartow, Benjamin Thys, Abdi Ismail, Pedro Rezende, Steven Alexander, Ama Birch, Uchenna Onyia, Akintunde Sogunro, Rafael de Mussa, and Sean Christian Taylor.

The creative team will include Chein-Yu Peng (scenic design), Joyce Liao (lighting design), and Cathy Small (costume design), and Bruce Heath (Dance
Choreography).
