On Sunday, October 22, 2000, at the Helen Hayes Performing Arts Center in Nyack, New York, friends and colleagues of the late Miss Hayes will join to celebrate the actress on the occasion of her 100th birthday.

Julie Harris, William Hurt, Donna Murphy, Bernadette Peters, Elaine Stritch, Charles Durning, Gwen Verdon, David Shire, and many more will participate in this hommage to Hayes. The evening will feature scenes, songs, and dances that reflect various aspects of the actress’ remarkable, 85-year career.

James MacArthur, Hayes’ son, will host the event, which will also include slides and film clips of the actress as she practiced her craft and several of the unforgettable performances that made her a star.

Tickets for the performance and the champagne/dessert reception that will follow are $150 (or $100 for the performance only). Admirers of Hayes may also pay tribute to her by taking ads in a special commemorative journal, filled with stories and photographs, that is being created for the gala. Tickets may be reserved by phoning Marilyn Stimac at 914-358-2847 ext. 11; for further information on the journal ads, phone Lin Simeti at the same phone number, ext. 22.
