Stars of Hand to God Meet the Press at Bar Where Playwright Robert Askins Works

The human and puppet stars of the new Broadway dark comedy Hand to God met the press at Lobo, the Park Slope restaurant and tavern where playwright Robert Askins tends bar.

Written by Askins and directed by Moritz von Stuelpnagel, Hand to God tells the story of Jason, a young member of the Christian Puppet Ministry in Cypress, Texas, whose life is thrown into chaos when Tyrone, his hand puppet, takes on a dangerous personality of his own.

Hand to God originally ran at Ensemble Studio Theatre before moving to MCC Theater in 2014. The complete MCC Theater cast — comprising Steven Boyer as Jason/Tyrone, Geneva Carr as Margery, Marc Kudisch as Pastor Greg, Sarah Stiles as Jessica, and Michael Oberholtzer as Timmy — take part in the Broadway transfer.

The creative team for Hand to God includes scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Sydney Maresca, lighting by Jason Lyons, sound by Jill BC Du Boff, puppet design by Marte Johanne Ekhougen, and fight direction by Robert Westley.

Previews will begin March 12 at the Booth Theatre, with an opening scheduled for April 7.
