Glenn Close, John Lithgow, Lindsay Duncan, Bob Balaban, Clare Higgins, and Martha Plimpton will star in a fall Broadway revival of Edward Albee's A Delicate Balance, producer Scott Rudin has announced. The revival, to be directed by Tony winner Pam MacKinnon, will play a limited engagement at the John Golden Theatre beginning October 20. Opening night is set for November 20.

Close and Lithgow will take on the roles of Agnes and Tobias, a long-married couple who must welcome home their 36-year-old daughter (Plimpton) after the collapse of her fourth marriage, give shelter to their best friends (Balaban and Higgins), and tolerate Agnes' alcoholic sister, Claire (Duncan).

The drama won Albee the first of his three Pulitzer Prizes when it opened on Broadway in 1966. It was last seen in a 1996 revival under the auspices of Lincoln Center Theater that starred George Grizzard, Rosemary Harris, and Elaine Stritch. A Delicate Balance marks three-time Tony-winner Close's first return to Broadway in two decades.

A Delicate Balance will feature scenic design by Santo Loquasto, costume design by Ann Roth, and lighting design by Brian MacDevitt.

MacKinnon previously collaborated with Albee on the recent Broadway revival of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, as well as his plays At Home at the Zoo, Occupant, The Goat, or Who is Sylvia?, and The Play About the Baby.
