Galt MacDermot, James Rado, Gerome Ragni, Stephen Schwartz, et al. to Be Inducted Into Songwriters Hall of Fame

Stephen Schwartz and Hair‘s Galt MacDermot, James Rado, and Gerome Ragni are among the 2009 inductees into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. The organization’s 40th Anniversary gala will be held at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel, on Thursday, June 18.

Inductees will also include Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora; Felix Cavaliere and Eddie Brigati (The Young Rascals); Roger Cook and Roger Greenaway; and Crosby, Stills & Nash. The Johnny Mercer Award will be presented to Brian Holland, Lamont Dozier and Eddie Holland of Holland-Dozier-Holland. The Towering Song this year is “Moon River” and the Towering Performance Award will be presented to Andy Williams. The Hal David Starlight Award will be presented to Jason Mraz. The Hitmaker Award will be presented to Sir Tom Jones. Maxyne Lang will receive the Abe Olman Publisher Award.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame celebrates songwriters, educates the public with regard to their achievements, and produces a spectrum of professional programs devoted to the development of new songwriting talent through workshops, showcases, and scholarships.
