Full Cast, Creative Team Announced for Abingdon’s The English Channel

Full cast and creative team have been announced for the Abingdon Theatre Company’s production of Robert Brustein’s The English Channel, to run September 13-October 5. The show, which will open officially on September 21, will be directed by Daniela Varon.

The play charts the murky relationship between great writers and their proclivity to “borrow” ideas and material, as it traces Shakespeare’s relationship with The Earl of Southampton, the Dark Lady of the Sonnets, and Christopher Marlowe during the turbulent months before Marlowe’s death.

The cast will include Brian Robert Burns, Stafford Clark-Price, Rosal Colan, and Sean Dugan. The creative team will include Mike Billings (sets and lighting), Laura Crow (costumes), and Scott Killian (sound and original music)

Next up will be Beachwood Drive (October 17-November 6), by Steven Leigh Morris, the story of Nadya, a Ukrainian woman brought to America and enslaved as part of a prostitution ring. he season will continue with Freudian Slips (January 24-February 15), by Marvin Lifschitz, and the New York premiere of Greek Holiday (March 6-April 5), to be directed by Stephen Hollis.

Finally, Austin Pendleton will star in the world premiere of Romulus Linney’s Love Drunk (March 28-April 19), which will close out the season. Directed by Kelly Morgan, the play involves an older man who picks up a much younger woman in a bar and brings her to his retreat, an Appalachian palace.
