Freaky Friday Movie, With Heidi Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdorff, Airs in August

The musical features a score by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.

The upcoming film adaptation of the new musical Freaky Friday, starring Broadway favorite Heidi Blickenstaff (Something Rotten!), will air on Friday, August 10, at 8pm, Disney Channel has confirmed. It will be available earleir that day to users of DisneyNOW and Disney Channel VOD.

Blickenstaff and Cozi Zuehlsdorff play Katherine and Ellie, a mother and daughter who swap bodies and are forced to spend a day in each other's shoes. Also starring are Ricky Hee, Alex Désert, Jason Maybaum, Kahyun Kim, Dara Reneé, Jennifer Laporte, Isaiah Lehtinen, and Sarah Willey.

Inspired by the recent stage musical adaptation of the property, the film version of Freaky Friday will feature eight songs from the show by Next to Normal Tony winners Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey, as well as two new ones, including one cowritten by Zuehlsdorff. The script is written by Bridget Carpenter, who penned the book of the musical. Freaky Friday is inspired by the novel by Mary Rodgers.

Steve Carr directs and executive-produces the film, with John Carrafa serving as choreographer. The creative team also includes David Lawrence (score), Perry Andelin Blake (production design), Angus Strathie (costume design), Thomas Schumacher (executive producer), and Susan Cartsonis (executive producer).

The Freaky Friday soundtrack will be available digitally and in stores on the Walt Disney Records label on August 10.
